Character’s feelings refers to the emotions they express in response to a specific situation. These feelings can change over time.
Making connections allows us to read with the lens of our previous knowledge.
If something has happened to us before, or if we have read about it or seen it elsewhere in the world, we can use those experiences to make connections and understand the information more clearly.
We can think, ‘Because it happened to me this way it must have happened the same way in the story.2

situation – what is happening at a certain time in a story
connections – links we make between the text and our own experiences, other texts, or the world
previous knowledge – things we already know from past experiences
experience – something that has happened to us before
paraded – shown in front of others repeatedly
domain – a space or area that belongs to someone
private – something personal, not meant for everyone to see
